Before any full flood alleviation project a full flood risk assessment is undertaken. We capture a variety of data from the site, including flood levels, topographical information and structural observations. This data informs a final report for the client giving full detail of the flood risk faced by the site with proposed alleviation measures.
The precise mix of flood defence products used will depend on the flood risk to site. Often a wide variety are used to achieve full protection and in certain instances there is room for choice on the part of the customer – flood-proof concrete bunds with access ladders can be specified instead of flood doors. We work closely with each of our customers to tailor the final flood defence systems to their specific needs.
As well as our fabricated flood defences and wall flood defence systems we offer a number of supplementary systems to target specific areas of flood risk. Sump pumps are used to prevent ground water rising under hydrostatic pressure from inundating buildings from underneath. Reinforced concrete waterproof bunds can be cast around equipment where cabinets would prove impractical or expensive – around a large transformer for example.
We have also developed a unique duct sealing system to retrofit protection to existing cable ducts around buildings holding electrical equipment. We use a host of other products as part of our service including flood-proof airbricks and fabricated vent covers.
